The Peabody Opera House
View Pictures of Construction Progress
A venture consisting of affiliates of Optimus, LLC and SCP Worldwide, LLC (“SCP”) has a long-term leasehold interest in the Peabody Opera House, a St. Louis landmark which has been out of service since May 1991.
The Peabody Opera House is a historic theater located at the corner of 14th and Market in the St. Louis Central Business District. After renovation, the opera will house a 3,200 seat theatre, four side banquet halls and approximately 140 dressing rooms. Sport Capital Holding - St. Louis, LLC (SCH), an affiliate of SCP will operate, program, and manage the Opera House. SCH, owner of the St. Louis Blues, also operates the adjacent Scottrade Center in St. Louis and will leverage its staff in the operation of the Opera House. Previously, SCP’s principals have also operated Madison Square Garden and Radio City Music Hall.
Located at the corner of 14th and Market Streets in the heart of St. Louis, the Kiel Opera House was once a sought after venue for both performing arts and community use. Adjacent to its exquisite two story lobby and magnificent staircase, the main auditorium seats 3,400 between its main floor and balcony levels. In addition to the main auditorium, the Kiel Opera House also includes four small side theaters or assembly halls, 140 dressing rooms and numerous support spaces.
Renovation of the historic building will return the Opera House to its status as a premier venue for performing arts and community activities. The many intricate details within the interior of the building are representative of the era in which it was constructed. Many of the original fixtures remain in tact, including the chandeliers in the two story lobby and the etched glass at the ticket window. This project will utilize the usage of federal and state historic tax credits, state Brownfield credits, and New Market Tax Credits.
